Saira Banu took to social media to share unseen clips from the her wedding with Dilip Kumar on the occasion of their anniversary
Late actor Dilip Kumar and veteran actress Saira Banu were one of the first most-loved couples in Bollywood. They were often credited for their on-screen as well as off-screen chemistry. Fans were left over the moon when they tied the knot 57 years ago on October 11. Now, on the occasion of the wedding anniversary, the actress took to her official social media handle to share glimpses of her wedding ceremony with him and recall her ‘real Cinderella story’.
Taking to Instagram, the 79-year-old veteran actress penned a long heartfelt note as a way of expressing her gratitude to all of their ‘well-wishers and dearest friends,’ who reached out to her on the special day. She went on to delve into details about how it was like to be married to Dilip Kumar. She wrote, “People have often asked me…What was it like to be married to Dilip Kumar Sahib…the ‘SHAHENSHAH’ and I always told them, It felt Like Sharing a Throne without having to slog for it! It’s a real Cinderella Story! She went on to explain how her husband had an immense personality, was a great human being, and had a versatile ‘knowledge of the world and everything under the sun that you never feel cramped with him.’ Calling him a ‘book you can never stop reading,’ she recalled how his interests, apart from films, ran in a wide range of subjects like Urdu and Persian Poetry, Anthropology, International Affairs, Botany, Sports. Banu concluded her post by stating, “Sahib has been that iconic guiding light not only for me, but for all those generations who have stepped forward in their lives, exemplified by his gracious presence and personality. Dilip Sahib is forever. May Allah always keep him in his love and abiding grace. Aameen!”
Fans and netizens were over the moon as soon as the post surfaced on the internet. They were quick to take to the comment section of the video to share their well wishes. For the unversed, having worked together in movies like Gopi and Bairaag, Sagina Mahato, and Duniya, the couple enjoyed 55 years of marital bliss before Dilip Kumar passed away in July 2021.
